Natural Relief for Heartburn, Reflux, Indigestion & GERD

So, you've been diagnosed with GERD and the doc writes you a prescription for an antacid, makes sense right? I mean that burning in your chest has to mean you have too much acid right? Not exactly... .

6 years ago after an endoscopy I was diagnosed with GERD and given a script for Prilosec. I never took it. Instead I took acid support. Say what?!?! That's right I combatted my acid reflux with acid. Unless you've been diagnosed with ulcers or had your stomach acid measured there's a good chance it's not an issue of too much stomach acid, but hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid) and/or a faulty LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter) that could be contributing to your reflux. This valve is supposed to guard the junction between the stomach & esophagus. The LES is to supposed to close quickly after eating to block any acidic stomach juices from going back up the esophagus. It only briefly opens to belch or vomit. .

Scientists have found that when we have heartburn or GERD, the LES opens briefly when it's not supposed to, causing any small amount of stomach acid to escape the stomach & cause discomfort. Our stomachs are supposed to be highly acidic! We need acid to break down our food & to kill pathogens. It doesn't matter how much acid there is in the stomach as long as the LES stays closed, we won't get heartburn. Also, having hypochlorhydria and not digesting your food will add fuel to the fire as the food sits & basically starts to rot in your stomach causing a build up of gas & feeding gut dysbiosis.
